Pay equity discrimination

A good education with a college and graduate degree should prepare one for the best jobs, be it man or woman.
Recent statistic have indicated that women receive more graduate and undergraduate degrees than men, are more than 50% of the workforce, are equal to or if not in most cases the main breadwinners of families.
Yet women continues to work in equal positions with men, and earns considerably less than men, with some exceptions for Union and Government positions.
In some cases, it is also double jeopardy for a woman who is also a minority in this society.
My questions to you are:
(1) Why does this situation continue in our society?
(2) How can we correct this phenomenon ? and
(3) Are we aware of the greater impact this has on our society as a whole socially and economically ?
